Try out Lorong selamat char Koay Teow... Note- dont go to red hat aunts... Expensive and rude! Ktg char Koay Teow not bad.. I recommend the hidden stall char Koay Teow which located inside midtown cafe food court centre.. Delicious! Thumbs up for this. over 6 years ago

We were there in December and stumbled across a recommendation in Timeout magazine for the best place for Fish Head Curry.

Took a taxi there and even the taxi driver wanted to know how we knew about this place because it has quite the reputation. It was, without doubt, the best Malaysian food I've ever had.

Yummy (Don't be put off by the name nor the fact that the dish arrives with a fishes head, teeth included.)

    Restaurant 77
    77-D Persiaran Gurney
    10250 penang

    (Tel 2279086)

You'll have to take a taxi as it's a little way outside the old town, but it's wortht he effort. It's also near an excellent night market so you can finish with some Ice kachang afterwards just a short stroll away.

Head down to Teluk Bahang, Penang, where the Spice Gardens are. If you're interested, you can go in and walk around. Very nice place. Has a very large hammock overhanging some of the gardens below.
With answer to your question, opposite the Spice Gardens there are some food stalls and a beach. So whilst enjoying the cool breezes and sunset, enjoy some very delicious Assam Laksa (one of the best and memorable ones I've had) and coconut juice straight from the Coconut.
You can get there by cab (though would cost much) or take a nice scenic ride on the local bus. It stops in front of the Gardens. Head back to the city the same way. over 6 years ago
