Hostels in KL: Pujjanga Homestay in Bukit Bintang. Clean rooms and great people working there. Otherwise if you want a cheaper price check out the places in Chinatown. Do check for bed bugs everywhere though, I experienced that in two places. Awful.

Perhentian Islands is a great place if you want to relax on the beach. Laid-back and cheap backpacker style.

Cameron Highlands is nice if you want to escape the heat. The highest peak around there is 2000m so it is nice for some hiking as well. over 11 years ago

Go up to Kota Bharu (fly on AirAsis real cheaply) and take a boat to Pulau Perhentian and learn to dive or just relax in this tropical island paradise.

Much better than Penang or Langkawee............ over 11 years ago
