  • Check out The Straits Collection. They have beautifully restored Unesco-listed shophouses with modern amenities and also run the very popular and trendy China House which is a cafe and art space. Izak almost 4 years ago

We stayed here about two years ago; family run place.

China Tiger - George Town, Penang
2 suites within a restored merchant house & 2 studio apartments in the heart of Georgetown – Unesco World Heritage Site – Penang, Malaysia.

When you're there, check my other answer about a place that does the most AMAZING fish head curry. Well worth the effort to find it. about 7 years ago

I have two boutique recommendations for you in George Town (which is the best place to stay to explore):

    - 23LoveLane
    - Hotel Penaga

23Lovelane has just 10 rooms (plus a couple suites nearby), all in antique buildings that have been conserved and restored to the highest standard, plus modern amenities like AC and bathrooms added. They serve a lovely afternoon tea too, included in the rates. You're in the heart of the UNESCO zone here.

    - Hotel Penaga has 45 rooms and is a touch more modern (but still restored old Chinese shop houses). Just outside the UNESCO zone (a couple minutes walk), this hotel also has a lap pool and conveniences like room service. The owners have put a lot of care into ensuring this is a true environmental hotel, plus have really cool art throughout (and a artist in residence program).

I'm happy to answer any other questions for you!

I stayed at Super 8 Hotel. Pros: very clean and cheap. I booked Deluxe 2 double beds for 4 persons. We ended up pay USD 7 per person. Cons: a little bit far from main road. You have to walk about 500 meters to the nearest bus stop. about 7 years ago
