I am doing the Pinnacles walk in Mulu, Sarawak, Malaysia in February and later climbing Mt Kinabalu. Usually when I hike I wear my Scarpa boots but am concerned they will be too bulky for the ladders etc on the Pinnacles walk. I am thinking about getting some walking shoes to take instead. Does anyone who has done either or both of these walks have a view one way or the other?

I went with a group that did Kinabalu ( didn't climb as I'm scored of heights) but they did it with hiking boots so scrapa will do... Got to base camp of Pinnacles and it sound like a crazy climb, so best of luck.. I noticed that alot of the locals wear this plastic shoes that has suction like things on the bottom... It's pretty cheap to buy... Has great grip, light but I can't say it's the most comfortable thing in the world... You should check them out, if the locals wear it, I'm sure it has it's merits... Good luck almost 9 years ago

I did Mt Kinabalu in 2008 and will be doing again this April. Don't bother with expensive trekking boots. You can buy "kampong Addidas" (they are actually black rubber shoes worn by the guides) for about M$6 from the local wet market in town. Reason being it always rain on the descent (could be the condensation) and boots get rain-soaked and becomes very heavy. almost 9 years ago
