Thailand>Laos Mekong cruise

almost 6 years ago about Laos

We want to take a short cruise from Thailand to Laos on the Mekong in June. Which one would be the best? I am Australian, do I need a visa for Laos if I want to stay for few days? And where to stay in Laos?

You can get a visa-on-arrival at any official Laos border crossing, as long as your passport is valid for at least another 6 months. They may need you to show proof of an onward/return air ticket. Make sure you get the entry stamp otherwise there'll be a world of trouble when you try to leave.

Take a trip to Chiang Mai then Chiang Rai, from here you can take the boat to Laos.

Cross the border, visit Houy Xay then take 2 days 1night cruise with Luangsay cruise via Pak Beng. Afterward, you will be arriving in Luang Prabang, there are lots of things to do in this city.

We did the 2day Luangsay cruise in 2010 and it was excellent. Luxurious, at least by our modest standards. The boat ambles down the Mekong, stopping occasionally. Lunch was very good and the overnight accomm on shore was top notch. A brilliant couple of days. Take your camera and a spare battery. almost 5 years ago
