Phil from the world nomads.com safety hub here. No need to worry about conforming to a particular dress standard, Nairobi is a reasonably cosmopolitan city. I wouldn't recommend midriff tops and short-shorts, but regular street clothes... What we in Australia call "smart casual", jeans, t-shirt, cotton blouse. I assume you'll be going on safari at some stage... Wear comfortable casual clothes. As Phil says, Nairobi is a busy city and is used to seeing foreigners coming and going. I definitely wouldnt expose too much flesh and would wear long(er) trousers or skirts with shirts that dont flash your bra.

Sturdy shoes would be good as the streets can be uneven and these are also good if you do do a safari...although I only had flip flops on mine!! over 9 years ago

Well dress decently but Nairobi is quite liberal but it's a bit chilly this time of the year so u might want keep warm. U will not offend anyone : ) enjoy your conference and check out Mombasa if you have time. over 9 years ago

Msafiri is quite right about the current weather. You will be cool during the days and cold at night. Nairobi is at a high elevation and a lot of people don't realize how cold the evenings can get this time of year. However, smart casual is acceptable everywhere, jeans, long shorts and please, bring a flees or light jacket. over 9 years ago
