Joey, it depends where in Kenya you're going. Overall the place requires you to be extremely cautious, bad roads, high crime and ethnic clashes, and the capital, Nairobi, has the nickname Nai-robbery. You should certainly not wear jewellery or flash expensive cameras, and car-jacking is common all over.
Add to that an ongoing conflict between Kenya and a Somali-based terrorism group. The two have been playing tit-for-tat for a little while, now the Kenyans have just issued a warning that there's a high risk of a terrorist attack in Nairobi, with panning believed to be in its final stages. The Kenyan authorities say the attacks could be indiscriminate and might target shopping malls, transport hubs, hotels and beaches.
WorldNomads.com has an alert about the warnings on the safety hub, here: http://journals.worldnomads.com/safetyhub/story/82185/Kenya/Kenya-Terrorist-Threat-Travel-Alert
where you can get more detail. Even without that threat Kenya is a risky place and you need to do your homework before you go, ie ask about security at the hotel where you're staying. And right now might not be the best time to go if you can delay your trip.
