We are renting a car in Jordan and are wondering if we could sleep in it to avoid paying for accommodation ... would this seem to weird to the locals, would they tolerate it and is it safe to do so? Are there many side streets or place where we could just park for the night?

its not nice as reputation as atourists or guest to stay into your car for slepping as you can park it anywhere for sleeping & as our country so safe but you dont need to emperess youself.
hostels in amman center cost 5 - 10 dinar per person or you can pay 3 dinar to sleep on the roof better to bother your self on the street all watching you .

if i put my self into your shoes i will not rent acar & i will use public transportation & save my money.

so i dont advice to sleep in your car , what if you need to use toilet. ( in public ? )

if you dont have enough money for your trip you dont need to travel about 10 years ago

do you really mean a car, or are you talking about a camper van?
You ask is it SAFE? You and your valuables will be in the car, alone, at night, in a side street, in an unfamiliar country. You might be lucky and sleep unmolested every night, but personally I think you might as well paint VALUABLES HERE, PLEASE ROB US on the side of the car. And that goes for any country not just in Jordan. about 10 years ago
