Hoping to visit in a few weeks either coming from Egypt by ferry at Nuweiba into Aqaba or flying into Amman. Visting Wadi Rum, Petra and the Dead Sea. I heard the Eastern checkpoint boarding Iraq was taken by ISIS and that there have been recent issues in Ma'an. Thanks in Advance for your comments and advice.
Hi Happy Traveller, Jordan is safe for tourists. There have been a few problems on the Iraqi border but this will not affect you. The Iraqi border is an isolated place across quite a large expanse of desert to the east of Amman. The issues in Ma'an are small and isolated - a few locals like to protest now and then and cause disruptions on the desert highway, but that is all. Recently there have been no news of any problems. If travelling by tourist bus (JETT) or private car booked through an agent they usually stay on top of any news like this and take alternate routes to avoid Ma'an if there are any protests. Right now is high season here, and tourists are coming and going - business as usual. You will probably be surprised when you arrive as the country is nothing like what is portrayed on the western news. Hope you have a good trip, and feel free to drop in when in Aqaba. about 6 years ago
