Me and my fiancé are traveling for a day and a half. We want to enjoy every minute. Ideas are appreciated.
Bernard, you and your fiancee are going to have a tough time seeing all of those things in a day and a half, seeing even one of them in that time would be a rush.
The best way to see Wadi Rum and experience a bedouin camp is with an overnight stay.
Petra is a one day excursion (at least) from Amman, it's a 3 hour drive (each way).
maybe pick one of them and do just that.
It just so happens that Jordan is the feature destination of the month at worldnomads.com, lots of great ideas here:
And as far as safety goes... you're heading to a relatively safe place. Watch out for the cold in the desert at night. http://journals.worldnomads.com/safetyhub/story/87002/Jordan/Weather-Extremes-Jordan

Petra is spectacular. Buy a book and read about it first and then just walk around and take in the sights. Be there early because time will fly.. There are some small coffee shops/restaurants in Petra run by locals that are okay but the big "official" tourist restaurant you should avoid. Better to bring your own picnic. But take care of the waste :-). I went up to the "High Place" and i highly recommend it. Kinda hard walk but no problem if you are normally fit. Fantastic scenery! And a small coffee shop with great turkish coffee near the top :-). Wadi Rum was awesome! Try to get a trip from a tourist operator in Aqaba and stay the night. It is an amazing place! In general i found the people in Jordan to be very friendly, helpful and curious. Do dress properly and no bare shoulders on girls though. No big issue but people will stare. Hope you enjoy your stay. I sure did. almost 8 years ago
