Arashiyama on one edge of Kyoto has bamboo groves and a string of temples my favourite of which is Gio-ji.

The other obvious place to visit is Higayama where a walk named the Philosophers walk talks you along a whole string of the best temples from the Silver temple at one end to Kiyomizu at the other. If you haven't done it before, it's well worth it.

There are loads of lesser known temples around Kyoto, but if you haven't been before it's a start. about 6 years ago
