Near Nagano you can travel to the Snow Monkeys. Really cool experience. We stayed at 1166 Backpackers Hostel. Highly recommended.

At the Emperor's palace in Tokyo, the East Gardens are still quite beautiful in the winter (saw them in January and the roses were in bloom). over 4 years ago

If you are coming from February, then visit Hokaiko. You can fly into Sapporo for the Ice festival then take a week skiing in Niseko or surrounding areas. over 4 years ago

I have heard the Sapporo Winter festival is amazing!

We stayed at a hot spring in Hakone which was an amazing, relaxing and beautiful experience.
