    Check the label on your hairdryer, most appliances have an in-built adaptor and can handle voltages between 100 and 240.
    FYI - Japan uses 100 volt at 60 Hz, Europe uses 240 v at 50Hz.
    If you had a hair dryer that didn't have an adaptor it would be okay to plug it in to a Japanese socket, but if you tried that in reverse sparks would fly.
    Just check the label. Also most hotels provide hairdryers to their guests.
