    April and May are excellent months in Japan. My recommendation would be to head south: Kyoto, Miyajima, Shikoku, Beppu, and Sakurajima. over 6 years ago

    May can be nice, but if you are thinking about beginning of May, make sure you avoid so called "Golden Week". it's a series's of national holidays which many people in Japan take advantage of and head out to touristic destination, leading to major traffic jam, packed bullet trains, higher hotel rates and so on. Golden week starts late April and end with May 5th which is a Boy's day celebration. over 6 years ago
