Where can I a SIM card for data communication?

I will be traveling to Japan soon and I need to have mobile internet connection for my iPhone and iPad. Where do I get a SIM card even for data communication only? Are there prepaid SIM cards available?

  Prepaid sims are not sold to non-residents, but you can RENT one. The main operators are Softbank and Global Advanced Communications. over 5 years ago
