Apparently so. It's a dormitory suburb of Kingston, and I'm sure it's a lovely place to live and commute to the capital, but there's not much in the way of developed tourism - which is probably why it's safe - tourists attract criminal elements, so 'no tourists' means 'no crooks'.
Most of the crime and gang violence you red about is confined to specific parts of Kingston and Spanish Town.. I'm not saying you should let your guard down completely, but it seems pretty safe.

Port more is relatively safe. Like other communities in the world, it has it's good parts and not so good parts so exercise caution. Not much available in terms of traditional tourist attractions. The only thing that comes to mind is Hellshire Beach. The beach itself is not so great, a lot of garbage and rough waters. The food is great! Fried fish, stewed fish, lobster. Can't go wrong if you're into seafood. almost 8 years ago
