    August is traditionally the vacation month for many Italians. They leave the cities and go to the country site. What is why restaurants close: they are also on vacation just like their regular guests. about 7 years ago

    Justine, I have to object. Only southern european countries tend to have longer vacations during the summer. August is the traditional month for vacations in Italy since WWII. Milan is even more special since they celebrate St. Ambroggio, the city's patron in August. Most of the people escape the city, going to the mountains, the lakes or the ocean. over 6 years ago
