Besides the heat, are there any problems with touring Florence,Italy in August. Are sites closed due to vacations, etc.

florence will be hot and humid and packed with tourists. museums are open and the line-ups are long. luckily, a lot of musuems - especially the "UFFIZI" - now have online booking for dates and times. do it! the beaches of tuscany are nice and not too far away, so if you need to cool down, take a day-off from tourism and head west to the coast. the trains will be packed, too. to avoid the chaos on long rides, always take a EUROSTAR or FRECCIA (the TAV, fast train), you can ride comfortablely in second class. if you take regional trains, go with first class. avoid the INTERCITY trains, they can run hours late! in florence, make sure to visit the SAN LORENZO district, it has a street market and is the best area for buying leather articles. try to bargain as much as possible because the tourist prices are 3 times higher than what locals pay. the best restaurant in florence is on the main street of san lorenzo, across from the church and behind the leather kiosks! it's called TRATTORIA GOZZI. it's a family-run place very reminiscant of new york delis! buon viaggio e buon appetito! almost 7 years agoAnswered by bon bon in italy via WorldNomads.com
