I have never been to Venice and as Germanwings is offering flights to Venice from November onwards I thought about visting the city in winter. But I have no idea how the weather is like than - I only heard that it is raining a lot. Is that true? And are there as many tourists in winter as there are in summer or is it less crowded?
I have been to Venice in Feburary and December and both were lovely. Not so many tourists around and with it being cold, it meant that you could walk everywhere without getting too hot and bothered.
In February, the weather was cold but clear and crisp. In December, we arrived the day that they had the highest water level in a long time, so St Marks Square was flooded, as were lots of other places, but within a day, things were really back to normal, and apart from a few warning sirens that didnt amount to much, everything was okay.
It did rain a little bit more in December and seems misty, but this added the loveliness of Venice.
I would only go again out of season. Never, ever in the summer months! Wrap up warm, take gloves and scarves and an umbrella and you are sorted. over 10 years ago
