Lucca is not far from Florence and is well worth a short train ride for a day trip. It is a small historic community surrounded by a rampart, which has a bicycle trail/walking trail around the town.

Also, within the town is a tower with trees growing on top. Buy some wine, cheese, fruit, and olives and enjoy a picnic at the top! over 6 years ago

Assisi you can do in one day, not sure worth stopping there. Would definitely explore more of Tuscany and try not to miss Siena, San Gimignano,Arezzo, Montepulciano, Lucca and Pisa. In Rome most restaurants in Trastevere offer a good price quality ratio (Carlone one of the best). In Rome don't miss the Fori Imperiali! over 6 years ago

There is some fine dining and gorgeous Hotels in Ravello, up on the hill behind Amalfi. Views to die for. Exquisite place, especially in September! over 6 years ago

Festival del Gelato, off Piazza del Republica in Florence, is a don't-miss for me. Tons of gelato flavors, and it's all really good? Look for the place with lots of neon lights. :) over 6 years ago
