What is the best (safest, easiest, most pleasant) area of Rome to stay in mid-range accommodation? Where should you avoid?

We stayed at the Hotel Cortina last year and loved it - http://www.hotelcortinaroma.com/ Reasonable rates, great location - close to main train station and Trevi Fountain. Wonderful staff. Has great reviews on travel sites :) over 9 years ago

I like the Parioli & Flamino area.

Google around for appartment rentals in/around Trastevere.
Nice neighbourhood with lots of restaurants and medieval houses. We found that appartments were cheaper compared to (decent looking) hotels.
Not to far from Colloseum/Forum, and we walked over there a few times. Or just get a sighseeing busspass to get around to the most famous places - stops just a few minutes walk away from Trastevere. over 9 years ago -
Hello :)
When we went to Rome on 2007, we ended up booking @ Ivanhoe Hostel
(Via Urbana, 50) which was a decent place to stay in a very nice zone, like a block away from a subway station and walking distance from the coliseum which ended up being an awesome location for being a tourist. The price at that time was 21 euros per person in a 10 bed mixed shared room but we ended up in an 8 bed room and being 6 of us it worked quite right so expect something on that range of prices.
I really recommend all that area.
What i wouldn't recommend is booking something not near the center of the city unless you really have lots of time because sometimes it can take you ages to get to places and when you're backpacking around you really should think about saving time and the price is not gonna make much of a difference.
Also, visit on summer. Italy is gorgeous on that time of the year :) over 9 years agoAnswered byMafer Kendel via

Villa della Fonte Guest House http://www.villafonte.com/
It is a small gem of hotel. It is ideally situated in a very lively, but it's surprisingly quiet at the same time. The rooftop terrace for breakfast he could successfully start each day. The room is very clean with a nice bathroom, and TV with satellite. This is an excellent hotel to relax after long days of tourism. You can find easily walk from the main tourist attractions of the hotel. almost 8 years agoAnswered by Hotel Management 007 viaTravellr.com
