We live in Croatia and next september we'll stay a couple of weeks in a very tiny village called "Poggio alla Sala", where is located a wine farm and an old manor house. It seems a wonderful place, but we'd like to use the car every day to visit the nearby towns. Chiusi, Chianciano, Pienza, Montepulciano. Where should we go?

We liked the town of Pienza for a nice afternoon. The town is great for hanging out and the architecture is beautiful. Nearby is the small town of Monticchiello where you will find the restaurant La Porta. If it's a nice day, sit outside for lunch. Or plan to have a wonderful dinner. This is a great spot! http://www.osterialaporta.it/monticchiello.en.php
Montalcino is another great town for a day trip. Plenty of places to wine taste or have a meal. The castle is a fun place to visit and enjoy the views.
San querico d'Orcia is a small town worth a visit. The small chapel at the entrance of the old town is beautiful, but walk behind to find a rose garden and park.
We also enjoyed a visit to Sant'Antimo, a monastery close to Montalcino. They sing vespers once a day, I think.
You will be close to Siena, which is worth a day's visit. Wander around that area, too. about 8 years ago
