Where is the best area to stay in Rome? (Family of 4, with 2 teenage children) Any hotel recommendations?

I'd have to suggest you try renting apartments rather than hotels - we travel regularly as a family and find it a whole lot easier. The best site I've been using recently to do this is http://www.airbnb.com
We were in Rome 4 years ago and stayed in an apartment close by the Colosseum. Central is certainly good as Rome can sprawl a way out. almost 10 years ago -
I've stayed in a camping. The price is reasonable and your teenage kids will absolutely love it - i say that 'cause i'm 19. Cheers! almost 10 years ago

With teenagers an apartment might be a better idea than a hotel. I've stayed at the Sunflower House which has studio and two bedroomed flats. It's right across from the Basilica and near Trastevere that has lots of pubs, restaurants and areas to hang out for the teens.
Have a look at http://www.sletoh.com/hotel/Sunflower-House-61506.html to get an idea. almost 10 years agoAnswered by Marcy viaTravellr.com

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Campo de Fiori- close walk to some great piazzas, and in the piazza just outside the hotel there is a great market that is set up around 9:00 am. The hotel is small and there is no elevator (ask to stay as high as possible to access the rooftop deck) but full of character, and the whole family may like the walk to the Spanish Steps, Pantheon and San Clemente.
A cool restaurant is in Trestevere, called La Cisterna ("The Well"). The restaurant was built over the first restaurant in Rome, and the service and food was great when we went. You have to ask about the well, and after dinner the staff will escort you to the lower level to see the ruins of the first restaurant and let you see the well. Great local flair!
