Only briefly visited it however Positano or Amalfi town themselves look nice. Positano is a tourist attraction in itself with loads of colourful buildings, little alleyways & steps that lead down to the beach. Its built kinda on a cliff side and has loads of lovely shops & nice restaurants. There's alot of climbing up & down steps though but if you're okay with that the place just oozes character. Think you can do boat trips from there. If I were you I'd base myself in a town since the Amalfi coast road is more windy, remote with sharp drops than the Sorrento coast so I think it would be safer & nicer for you to bed down in a populated centre with loads of facilities & explore the remote coast safely by day. Amalfi town has a famous church, some kind of paper musemn but all I was really interested in was shopping along the nice pedestrianised streets and eating in the cafes and restaurants. almost 10 years ago

The town of Amalfi itself is a real tourist honeypot ... however, a short bus ride away is the stunning little town of Ravello, perched high up at the tops of the cliffs with views to die for. There aren't that many places to stay there and those that are tend to be boutique 5-star hotels, but it's a delightful place, great views and great walks nearby and around. We even walked there from Amalfi itself. Highly recommended! almost 10 years ago
