Stopover in Italy

over 8 years ago about Italy

I am going to Italy on my honeymoon and am planning to drive from Tuscany to Amalfi Coast (Positano). We'd like to stop somewhere in between for the night, to break up the drive (NOT in Rome, prefer smaller, more relaxed towns).

Any suggestions? Thanks

We did exactly the same thing on our honeymoon in 1999. My advice is get to Positano as quickly as possible... it is so drop-dead gorgeous you don't want to be away for a day longer than necessary!
If you MUST stop (we did it in one hit, but it is a long drive), try Castel Gandolfo. The summer palace of the pope is there. If it's good enough for Il Pappa...! It's about 25km south east of Rome, not too far from the main North-South motorway, and about half way between Florence and Naples. over 8 years ago
