Simon is right, you don't need a Eurail pass, if you are doing small day trips Italian trains are generally cheaper than the Eurail pass would be.

In your bigger train stations there are plenty of self service machines that are easy to use and it'll save you heaps of time. In main stations (like roma termini, firenze santa maria novella etc.) there are 2 types of self service machines, inter-regional and regional. if you are going short distances, like from florence to pisa, then use the regional machines. For tickets going further distances like rome-naples use the touchscreen inter-regional machines.
At the moment trenitalia have a special going on which can save you up to 60% on the train fare as long as you buy the tickets at least 24 hours ahead of time...its called "mini" and you can get tickets for Venezia - Firenze from 17 euro.

For this the best site to look for a good online portal. From my personal experience, i would advice yo to go for yatra.com. They will provide you with all the minutia details considering the flight fare, hotels and everything. I discovered that they supply hefty discount and other stimulating boasts on worldwide tickets. over 8 years agoAnswered by reasiner west, via WorldNomads.com
