We always stayed in San Clemente Palace but that's a little on the expensive side from what I remember. I have also stayed in Hotel Ca' Pisani but honestly I don't really remember how the service was.. I'm sure I would have remember if it was bad though ;)

Hope this helps! almost 12 years ago

I have stayed twice at the Antico Doge http://www.anticodoge.com/en/index.htm

First time we had a junior suite with canal view and second time we had a large room in the new section. The hotel is well located - just off the Grand Canal near to the Rialto Bridge. There are some nice bars and restaurants in the area too, and you can walk to St Marco in 10 minutes, or the train station in 20. The staff are excellent and the breakfast is good but fairly basic. The hotel is well looked after and the location is perfect. Not too touristy but very handy.

Friends always stay at the Liassidi Palace and swear by it. http://www.liassidipalacehotel.com/en/index.htm almost 12 years ago

I stayed for several nights a the hotel San Gallo (S. Gallo as it was also posted) and had no complaints that i can remember. It was a little difficult to locate as this was my time to Venice, or Italy for that matter.

    Quoted from their website:
"The hotel is ideally located only 50 meters from St. Mark's Square, surrounded by the most important lanes of Venice, and can be easy reached thanks to its proximity to nearby boat stops.

The enchanting oasis in Campo San Gallo will greet you with relaxing, comfortable interiors decorated in the traditional Venetian style." over 11 years ago

Not one for crowds so like to stay a little out of the way. Hotel Ca' D'Oro is friendly, clean and comfortable. Great for lone female travelers. Found it on booking.com over 10 years ago
