We are a 50 year old couple visiting Italy for the first time in October and I am an artist. For a couple of our vintage, what is the best and easiest way to enjoy this area? Should we park the car and use public transport? Do we need reservations this time of year?
I wouldn't drive, the roads around there are mad. There are plenty of buses too, but by far the best way to get around is to walk! We did a pleasant little walk up from Amalfi to the delightful town of Ravello high above the coast. We also took a bus to another nearby town and did the coastal walk all the way to Priano (I think) which was fantastic if a little wet. A wonderful stretch of coastline to explore ... just get off the beaten track and you'll be amazed! about 9 years ago
If you like scooters and are up for the challenge, renting scooters is the best way to travel like a local. It's get you around traffic congestion and they have luggage on the scooters to keep your helmet and bags in. Bring a jacket because it will get colder. I very much recommend the scooter over 7 years ago
