I've heard of ISIS threatening Rome. We are looking at going to Florence, Venice and Cinque Terre but are not sure how something happening in Rome would affect travel plans or if we would be putting ourselves in danger.

    Dear Kristina,

I understand you but my advice is to do not panic because of the newspapers.

I am actually in Italy (in Florence) and here police is increasing the security checks.
At the entrance of St Peter square (Rome) there are metal detectors to check people who want to enter in the area. The Cinque Terre are not a metropolitan area so I don't think you will be in danger at all.

It is not possible to predict the future events but I don't feel afraid.

If you don't feel comfortable with your trip it is better to don't go.
Otherwise you will stress yourself and you will not be able to relax and to enjoy the beautiful things you can live here.

But if you want to go and you think you can relax I advice you to absolutely go.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to contact me.

I wish you all the best!

Rome is probably safe at the same level of any other European big city, the fact that since the terrorism attacks started to strike western countries after 9/11 Italy has never got one might means that after all this country is quite a safe place with a good intelligence level and police patrol. I guess nowadays you can't be 100% sure you'll be safe in basically any public place around the world, so you can choose to let fear affects you and don't go anywhere or take the risk and see the world. about 5 years ago

I totally agree with the two who answered before me. Ofcourse you cannot be 100% sure but the Italian police force is very good and well-organized, they check wherever they can and if there is ever any doubt, they will close off stuff.

Italy is wonderful, especially in early spring, so have fun!! about 5 years ago

These days predicting where Terrorism might strike is like wondering whether it might snow in March or April. Just go and enjoy. Don't let the terror mongers scare you from enjoying your life. If you do they are winning. almost 5 years ago
