Tuscany is famous throughout the world for its stunning scenery, famous wines and fascinating history. Visitors often book villas in Tuscany to stay in the heart of the region and enjoy the peace and quiet of this spectacular area of Italy. However, it is a large region, and choosing where to stay is not always an easy task. Here are three ideas for places you to stay or visit on a day trip.

    1. Elba

The island of Elba is one of the most popular places in the region, and anyone staying in villas in Tuscany should at least visit on a day excursion. The island is the largest in the area, and in fact is the third largest in Italy behind Sardinia and Sicily. It is part of the National Park of the Tuscan Archipelago, which comprises nine islands in total.

Elba is famous for being the place where Napoleon stayed during his exile in the early 19th century. It is also renowned for its fascinating history as it has been inhabited for centuries. The museums have some important collections to explore, and there are also other great attractions in the area, like Palazzina dei Mulini, which dates back to the 19th century, and the thermal baths in San Giovanni.

The sea around the island is spectacularly clear, the beaches are stunning and the landscape is rugged and beautiful. As such, it is an excellent place for outdoor activities, with snorkelling, diving, sailing and hiking all popular pursuits.

    2. Cortona

Cortona is located in the Arezzo province in the south of the region. A city enclosed by ancient walls dating back to Etruscan times, its location set high on a hill affords the visitor some amazing views. As well as some excellent restaurants and the gorgeous surrounding countryside, there are plenty of other attractions here, making it a popular spot for renting holiday villas in Tuscany.

    3. Chianti

Chianti is perhaps the most famous region of Tuscany. It is world renowned for the wine produced here, but it is also spectacularly beautiful. The rolling hills, verdant vineyards, tiny villages and ancient olive groves all make it the ideal place for a picture-perfect holiday. about 3 years ago
