If you want to get away from the tourists and noise, try to stay in a more urban part of venice. A Web site called Airbnb will have you in a share house before you can snap your fingers. Rent a room from a local or for a bit more rent an entire unit. Heres a cute one https://www.airbnb.com.au/rooms/2706477?s=bUKM over 4 years ago

We stayed at a small hotel outside Venice and caught the bus daily. It's call Locanda Zabotto and we found it on hotels.com about 4 years ago

I just finished a study abroad in Italy and I think the best place to stay in Venice was in the accademia district of Venice. It was very quiet and it is where many locals live. It is very close to San Marcos but far enough away from the tourists. We used the AirBnB website and rented an apartment. about 4 years ago

Villa Marcello Giustinian is a beautiful villa turned into a hotel. I just stayed there and while the rooms are small it was very nice. It is about 20 minutes driving to Venice in a lovely neighborhood with restaurants fairly close by. I found it in hotels.com. The price was not bad and includes breakfast. about 4 years ago
