We went on the bus city tour. The terminus is on the road just outside the Vatican City. It's a hop on hop off bus tour. DON'T get the least expensive, they have less busses and you could be waiting for ages for the next one to come along. You don't need to go to a kiosk to purchase your ticket, you can buy one at the bus. When you've completed your tour of Rome you can the meander thro the back streets. You could also go to castle st Angelo which we thought was amazing and something we hadn't heard about. If you're from the EU and over 60, have ID, it's free! Try 433 next bar (trip advisor) for dinner. Brilliant! Have a good trip. almost 5 years ago

We connected with a tour guide at the Forum. The next day she guided a tour of the Vatican. A guide will be able o get you into the Vatican much faster as they can skip the long lines. almost 5 years ago

Look into the company called Context. They take only 6 people and the guide is a specialist - for the Forum, you get a historian, for the Vatican, you get an art historian, etc. A little pricey, but they're the best. over 4 years ago
