We just spent 2 days in Naples and I could definitely have explored it longer, but then I like gritty authentic cities as they are wonderful to photograph.
I found this blog post particularly useful:
If you do go for a couple of days make sure you take the underground tour - I'm not into tours and this was the only one we did in 5 weeks, but it was well worth it.
Underground tours are given in English by Napoli Sotterranea (Piazza San Gaetano)
excellent day trips from Naples as a base:
- Pompei which you can easily do by local train.
- the island of Capri (gorgeous) and great food.
If you have more time still try visiting Amalfi and Ravello. almost 6 years ago
Don't go to naples. I didn't get further than the station and had my purse stolen with cash and cards. Yes, I was careful! Don't rent a car, there's nowhere to park it. A d if you do, you'll probably find all corners knocked off! You can walk and take the train to wherever you want. In sorrento right now. More touristy and expensive but very pretty. Got here by train from naples, 8€ for 2 tickets 1 way. There's a bus back to naples airport. almost 6 years ago
Two days are enough for naples, rent a car is better option to save your time and for more fun, you can easily rent a car at this http://www.carrentalpalermoairport.com/naples-airport-car-rental.php , If your budget is low you can use public transportation. about 5 years ago
Naples is wonderful, just gorgeous, if you like it gritty, and if you enjoy a mass of wonderful Italians in the streets. The Spanish Quarter has some great restaurants and there are many great pizzerias. The Archaeological museum is not to be missed. The Metro is not super convenient, but it helps move your across the city. Like any big city you need to be aware, but despite many people warning me not to go, and definitely not to stay there, I am so glad I did. I will return often. I just loved Naples. almost 5 years ago
