We will be in verona next friday and on saturday we will travel to our destination near Florance.
We would like to drive the byways and not the highways. Is there something we can see or somewhere we can lunch on the the route to Firenze and Verona?

Wherever you decide to stop, do it before bologna, cause the bologna-Firenze road (no choice of a by-road there) is full of tunnels. I would take in mantova or Parma if I were you, depending on how much in a hurry you are almost 6 years ago

Try to stop in Parma, neat city with high food quality. Small and historical, but hot and humid. almost 6 years ago

You could go as far as Modena on the main road and then across to Florence using the little roads. It will take forever though speaking from experience. If you have a satnav, make sure you select n to use motorways. almost 6 years ago
