What is the best time of year to visit Venice Italy?

I prefer either April but not if it clashes with Easter, or November/December. Whilst it will be cold and probably raining, the crowds are much less and you can spend hours walking around the misty canals and exploring at leisure and not with hordes of tourists.
Venice though is special at any time of year. almost 9 years ago -
After the carnival in February and before Easter to avoid the masses. Never go in the summer, way too hot and the smell of the standing water in the canals can be terrible. over 8 years ago
