I will be visiting Rome in a few weeks and I'm looking for the very best in authentic Italian food, prepared with local products. Tipically these will be small, family run trattoria's, crowded by locals and away from the real touristic area's. Any suggestions would be lovely!

Keep away from the main Piazzas & tourist must sees (these can be very pricey & very ordinary) and just walk into any of the small side streets and see where the locals eat. We ate at some rickety outdoor tables, very close to your neighbor, and had some of the best food for a good price in Rome. There are just so many, but the area of Trastevere, Campo di Fiori and the Jewish Ghetto areas are good. over 6 years ago

Go to Trastevere - great food in local settings, gradually becoming more touristy but still great experiences. over 6 years ago

Trastevere has a street full of old and good places to eat (the best trattoria and gelateria), if you're looking for good food, it's your location. over 6 years ago

My favourite place to eat in #Rome is Trattoria Monti, near Santa Maria Magiorre (Via di San Vito 13a). Family-run, relaxed, frequented by regulars, and very friendly. Specializes in Marche region cuisine. over 6 years ago

You have to try the original Fetuccine Alfredo at the Alfredo of Rome restaurant!!! One of the most delicious meals I ever had!!!! It's in front of the Mausoleum di Augusto! about 6 years ago
