I stayed three separate times at the Des Artistes Hostel on Via Villafranca in Rome. It is a quick walk from Termini (maybe 5 minutes) and I easily walked to a lot of the "tourist" sites from there as well. They have a common room inside and a cool rooftop hangout spot where I made new friends and shared some wine with them. The prices are decent (I stayed in the winter, but I believe the summer prices are fair for Rome) and the rooms have a lot of space. Unlike some other hostels I've been too, they don't pack the beds in (max was 3 that I stayed in) and they have several shared bathrooms on each floor. The cleaning staff fuss a lot about stuff, but everyone else was really welcoming. They have lockers for your stuff, but you have to provide your own lock... which is normal. The building also provides hotel services to others, so if you are really looking for a no-rules, party hostel, this might not be for you. But I did have a good experience meeting new friends, so if you are more looking for that, I would recommend it! Good Luck! about 6 years ago

I agree with Stephanie. Hostel Des Artistes (info@hostelrome.com). They are a couple streets back from the Rome transit centre. They have good pricing, are basic but are clean and very helpful. They are actually a hotel but they reserve the top floor for backpackers. While I was there they printed out a train timetable for me to Venice. If you are coming from the airport then you just get a bus (shuttle) to the transit centre and then walk there. Shuttles are about 7 Euro. almost 5 years ago
