I's say both if you've time. Both are easily accessible by train though Herculaneum is a bit of a walk. Although Pompeii is the most visited and more popular, the excavations at Herculaneum, down by the coast, are thought to contain more & be better preserved. Pompeii however is not to be missed and has a better tourist infrastructure. If you can squeeze in a visit to the cause of all the trouble, Vesuvius, all the better. almost 6 years ago

Yes but it will be tiring though I reckon you're fitter than I was. Aim to get to Pompei at opening time, it has its own railway station so is only a short walk away. That should give you time to experience it at leisure then hop on a train & fit in Herculaneum in the afternoon. It is approx 15 minutes walk from the station. These are not experiences you should rush. almost 6 years ago
