Is cycling allowed in Venice? Bike hire?

I have never seen anyone on a bike there. Open space is extremely limited so streets are very narrow and crowded. You would probably be fine riding on the mainland part of venice but I would plan on walking on the islands. almost 9 years ago

There are a lot of bridges (with stairs) through out Venice, along with small walkways that fit barely fit three or four people across. I personally wouldn't want to bike on the cobblestone that I remember being every where. You'll have a much more enjoyable time walking. over 8 years ago
