We stayed at Trinity University (available only in summer, I believe)...basic, but clean, accommodations. Also, check out any Hostelling International hostel...I volunteer for them and have stayed in several of their hostels and they range from very decent to great.

Here's the blog I wrote on our visit...maybe it can help you with your trip!

I'd agree with Janet, the Uni accommodation is usually basic but clean but only available during the Summer. UCD would also have accommodation but is out at Belfield http://www.summeratucd.ie/ but easily accessible to the city by bus. Other options too would be B&Bs. You won’t find many in the city but there are a number in the suburbs, certainly out the Stillorgan dual carriageway. Again easy access to the city on the bus. over 7 years ago

Globetrotters Hostel is my favorite... partly because of their fantastic breakfast. Had good luck at Isaacs & Jacobs as well. Avalon House is in a cool, old building. over 7 years ago
