I know it's unstable in Iraq, but I wanted to know how possible or how risky it would be to travel with my brother and I (I'm 25 and single and he's 21 and single, both white, Christian). I have an Iraqi friend who lives with his family in Arbil who would be willing to host us and take care of everything, including being picked up from the airport. So if we were able to get visas and Trump doesn't do anything else stupid, what's your opinion on us going? Our governments travel website basically makes it seem like we would get shot, bombed, raped, and murdered the minute we stepped off the plane. Is that accurate?? Are there American "tourists" in the Kurdistan area?

Yes it's very safe in Erbil Kurdistan - Kurds are not Arab . They have a different language which is similar to parse - Iran - celebrate same feasts etc - noruuz .
Extremely friendly people - good quality hotels , restaurant s and night clubs and bars.
I have travelled there many times primarily on business but that doesn't and shouldn't make a difference.
Public transport is v limited so taxis are the order of the day.
Kurdistan - Erbil can be expensive when compared to many ME countries as the economy is bouyant - many westerners live there - American, Euros etc.
It has a large and growing Arab Christian community - go and enjoy .
Oh and as for visas this. An be obtained on arrival.
Erbil airport has excellent security similar to Europe over 3 years ago
