I am planning to make a roadtrip trough Near and Middle East next year. After I have been in Syria and Jordan last year I'll do so again, including Iran, Iraq, Saudi and Jordan to Egypt.
Can someone give me any hints about travelling conditions in Iraq ?

Our family lives in Duhok for ten months out of year. We feel safe and enjoy our time there. We use taxis all the time. From erbil to Duhok is approx. $60 a trip. Do u want suggestions of where to go? Stay north. Ask for English speaking taxi driver and u will b good to go. Kurds love Americans. Honor them and they will honor u :) over 7 years ago

I have lived in Iraq for just over two years. Have had a villa both in Najaf and in Erbil, but doing business throughout the entire country. As a westerner, only a few unsafe places remain, it depends on your risk profile of course. But Kurdistan is easiest for both visa and traveling as an independent. 60$ erb-Duhok is for hiring the whole car. You can go for 15,000 Iqd (13$) as a shared. You need IraqVisa in advance for the south and then it is only ten days or visit residency for blood tests.... Which can be a slow process. If you feel the need to go south, Najaf, kerbala and hilla are great visits and pretty safe except for Religeous holidays when most attacks happen. over 7 years ago
