Easy to get a car, but a bit stressful. Roads are busy many motorbikes are dangerously driven - especially by inexperienced tourists. Hiring a driver is cheap, much safer, safer and it's a far more relaxing way to enjoy Bali. almost 7 years ago

I agree with Naile, I spend 6 months a year in Bali and would not drive here. Traffic is getting worse, too many tour busses and tons of motorcycles. You would be best to hire a driver, it is inexpensive and more enjoyable. almost 7 years ago

I second Niale and Ibud. It is much easier and convenient to hire a driver to go around. In most rental places, the additional cost to hire a driver is about $15-20 (Rp. 100,000 - Rp. 200,000) per 10 hours. You don't need gps anymore and you can enjoy Bali without having to stress out with the traffic all the time. almost 7 years ago

Yes of course you can rent .. Too many beautiful & amazing places to see to mention here .. Get a good map and tour guide book like lonely planet .. Also police often stop tourists driving and charge fees .. Often for no reason :( good luck, be safe
As mentioned before a hire a driver so much more relaxing and a good driver will explain customs, history etc. almost 7 years ago

The drivers are nice, reasonable, will wait while you shop so parking is not a problem. Know good places to take you for whatever you need, ours kept the A/C running and had a cooler of cold water! Listen to those of us that have been there! This really is the best option. almost 7 years ago

I've rented loads of times without problems. Driving is fine there. It's about $25/day for a nice car. over 6 years ago

You can rent a car (with or without driver) or a motorcycle almost anywhere in Bali. I see the "for rent" signs in a small cafe in front of the hotel, beside the massage parlors, or local stores all over. Some are big businesses exclusively operating a car/motorbike rentals, but many car rental businesses are small time/on the side businesses who don't even require a lot of paperwork or issue a receipt. So long as you photocpy your passport, show some valid driver's license, and fill out some basic forms as info, you can rent a car around Bali without difficulty. over 6 years ago

We hired a jeep and drove ourselves around without any fuss at all. It cost $12 per day (ex Ubud) and meant we could explore, go where we wanted, stop etc.

You have to be mindful of the some of the roads (ie from GIlimunuk to Ubud) but apart from that little stretch, it was fine. I highly recommend it. over 6 years ago
