Is it easy to get to the Gili Islands in Indonesia by public transport. I may be setting out from Ubud though more likely the Kuta region. Which would be better as a start off point and how would I go about the return trip? I'm only interested in reputable boat companies and how to get to the ports, none of these dodgy operators !

Check out Scoot Cruise at www.scootcruise.com or Rocky Fast Boat http://lombokreisen.com/rocky-fast-boat They are not public ferries but are defnitely worth considering. Both are in Bali - details on their websites. over 9 years ago

A piece of good advice to all travellers going to Indonesia, please take extra caution with your cash and valuables. It was reported in our newspapers today 08 July 2011 that a family recently visited Bali, an island in Indonesia and when the family were "asleep", their cash and valuables were all taken leaving them with only their clothes on their back. It was reported by the family that when they arrived in Bali after having booked a villa for their vacation, they were all given a welcoming drink in the evening during dinner and they suspected that the drinks were spiked knocking all of them completely out till the next late morning as they were unaware of what happened. over 9 years ago
