The Gili Islands off of the coast of Lombok are the best (not motorized vehicles)! You can get there by high speed water taxi. over 1 year ago

    • Thanks for the recommendation! I've considered this but the ferry prices are really expensive :( We've considered Nusa Penida instead. Any good beaches on mainland Bali? peakseadust over 1 year ago

Nusa Dua and Kuta are fine. But check out Nusa Penida, Barangan, and Padang-padang, too. Water is clearer and less tourists on weekdays. over 1 year ago

    • Hello! Thanks for the recommendations! We're booked in Nusa Penida and will be staying at Blue Point (a bit near Padang-Padang)! :) Where is Barangan? I've searched it but didn't see anything related to a beach? Maybe there are alternative names? peakseadust over 1 year ago

Kuta? For heaven's sake! I went through there in August and I now have a very clear vision of Hell. Filthy beach, drugs, prostitution, drunkenness and exactly the opposite of what Indonesia represents. Beaches? Lombok - there are some fabulous island beaches off Sekotong; forget the Gilis- dirty and overcrowded; Permuteran looked nice and so did Amed. over 1 year ago

Canggu is great, it's more rural and laid back and Echo beach is amazing especially if you surf. Great sunsets too. Seminyak has lovely beaches but more up market and it's quit an expensive place to be. Again fantastic sunsets and the restaurants put oriental umbrellas out and bean bags and it's a wonderful sight to just have a beer and watch the sunset while listening to chilled music. Ulawatua has a great little beach but you need to be fit and strong to climb down there. It's like journey to the centre of the earth but when you get down there you are in a cave and have to judge the waves to get out onto th beach. The surfers paddle out from there. Chenningan and Permadal are like paradise too.
Parts of Bali are filthy with litter and it's about time the country took action as in a few mor years lots of places will be rat infested. It's such a shame as it's a beautiful country. I have just spent 5 weeks travelling around and it's my 2nd visit over 1 year ago
