How is the scuba diving in Raja Ampat? Is it worth the journey?

Do you need a special permit to get to Papua (specifically for American citizens)? I have received mixed reviews from many different sources. If I need a special permit to get to Papua, what is the best way to obtain one and around how much would it cost? Thank you for your help!

I work on Gili Air in Indonesia as a diving instructor and we have lots of guests who have been to Raja Ampat. It is meant to be an amazing place and perhaps the most diverse diving in the world. Most places appear to have arranged a liveaboard and so the company they went with arranged all the visas and the like. Google liveaboard Raja Ampat and you'll get a ton of choice, Hope you enjoy it. over 8 years ago
