Depends on your preference -- beach or mountain areas. Beaches like Kuta or Legian are usually crowded with younger crowd and touristy.

On the other hand, places up in hilly area are also popular objects, like Ubud.

There are also places, not far from touristy areas, located in the middle of rice fields, offer you trueBali experience.

I always use www.agoda.com to book my accommodation and did this recently trekking through Indonesia.

You can filter the search by area and how many stars you want. It's a great site where you can get fairly cheap places that are really nice. about 6 years ago

Daniel, forget the hotels. Try staying at local's homes instead. You can rent homes at sites like www.travelmob.com or www.9flats.com. Personally, I think that it's a more meaningful experience than staying at hotels as it's cheaper, and you get to meet the local people through your host! :D They can show you all the best places to go anyway since they live there and are more familiar with Bali. about 6 years ago
