I think the new term they use now is "Kolkata". I personally enjoyed Kolkata more then New Delhi. Kolkata is more relaxing and more free. There are quite many markets. Delhi is more rushed and people are a bit more rude.m over 9 years ago

Delhi certainly....i guess...you should visit calcutta only during durga pooja ...which is during october and november . Else delhi is awesum as it has better infrastructure , its the capital - hence diversity , easy to travel around because it has a modern metro which is far better , lotus templle, qutub minar , red fort , jaipur(pink city), udaipur(exotic palaces turned hotels) , agra(taj mahal) , varanasi , himalayas(dharamshala,mc leod ganj , rishikesh , leh , ladakh) all are nearby almost 9 years ago

New Delhi is interesting, many places to shop Chandi Chowk, Red fort, Humayuns Tomb and Jama Masjid, Connaught Place is quite boring a lot of shopping. Head to Agra, Jaipur and Varanasi.
Unless you wanna relax prob best to go Calcutta over 8 years ago -
I recommend New Delhi. It is the national capital and famous for its wonderful historical monuments like world's tallest brick minaret Qutub Minar and Red fort and variety of cuisines that you would not taste in the rest of the world. over 7 years ago

Definitely Delhi (both Old Delhi and New Delhi), though Kolkata too has lots to see and experience too. But if there's a choice, you don't want to miss out on Delhi.
The city is bursting with monuments, culture, bazaars, hundreds of varieties of cuisine -- You will have an incredible time here.

I would like to recommend you New Delhi because it is famous for its historical monuments like Qutub Minar, Red Fort, Humayun Tomb and various types of markets like Chandni Chowk (You can enjoy various cuisines here), Sarojini Nagar Market, Lajpat Nagar, Nehru Place (Asia's Largest Computer Market), Lajpat Rai Market near Red Fort, so in shopping point of view Delhi is my first Priority. From Delhi you easily reach Agra and Jaipur to enjoy the Golden Triangle trip. So it's good to visit New Delhi. almost 7 years ago

I spent 6 months in Cal and I'm now planning on returning for a couple of years. I completely fell in love with the place. regardless of its crappy public transport, pollution and poverty, there is something intoxicating about the city and everyone else I spent an extended amount of time with felt the same. There's an inherent warmth there and it is certainly cheap if you're limited on the cash front. almost 7 years ago

Calcutta for sure. The street food and chai is incomparable to anywhere else. Delhi is unsafe and a shit hole and the people are unfriendly. Calcuttans in general are much friendlier. Delhi is as dirty as Kolkata. over 6 years ago
