In my opinion October is one of the best times to travel (and November) not too hot. Buddhism is seen more in the Himalaya regions like Ladakh, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. In particular and easily accessible from Delhi is the area around Dharamsala. And you may want to visit Bodh Gaya and Sarnath, accessed from Varanasi.
Other general highlights in the north include Rajasthan State, the Taj Mahal (just a few hours from Delhi easily combined when going into Rajasthan or across to Varanasi) and Varanasi. For 2 weeks to see some main sight and with your interest in Buddhism I would consider, Delhi, Jaipur, Taj Mahal, Orcha, Varanasi, Bodh Gaya and Sarnath. Prices depends on your style of accommodation, it can be very cheap and travelling by train is excellent value and fun! Good luck... almost 7 years ago

There are between four and sixteen principal Buddhist pilgrimage sites in India, with the most important located primarily in the Ganges Valley of India. One of the most important place of Buddhist pilgrimage is Lumbini, located near the Nepal-India border. This is where Gautam Buddha was born to a royal family in 556 B.C.E. Many auspicious signs accompanied the Buddha's birth, including the sprouting of the bodhi tree. The great Buddhist ruler Ashoka visited the site two centuries later, constructing a stupa (mound, usually of earth) and pillar in recognition. Although largely destroyed now, these remain important marks of the Buddha's birthplace. over 4 years ago

October is good. Not hot, not freezing, might be a little humid though. Since you are a Buddhist enthusiast, you can't miss Bodh Gaya in Bihar. Tour the entire state of Bihar; there are numerous sites of Buddhist interest here: Kushinagar, Sarnath, sanchi stupa.
For a meditation retreat, go to Ladakh-Leh-Spiti.
Other than that, visit kerala, rajasthan (jodhpur/udaipur/jaipur). over 4 years ago

The best time to visit India is between October and March. Temperatures in northern India are pleasant and range in the 25-10 degrees Celsius during the daytime in these months, making it pleasant for sightseeing. The land of Bihar is considered to be the richest one in context of Buddhism. Bodh Gaya is one of the most sacred Buddhist sites in Bihar. Vaishali was the first place visited by Siddhartha Gautama in India. Siddhartha Gautama had once visited Rajgir(Rajgriha) during His search for an enduring truth and again returned back at this place as the Buddha. Patna is a gateway to the Buddhist and Jain pilgrim centres of Vaishali, Rajgir, Nalanda, Bodhgaya and Pawapuri. The best time to visit Bihar is from October to March. over 4 years ago
