If a woman is camping or living as much as possible outside normal tourist accomodations, how safe is that in India, Nepal or Tibet?

many women find India challenging, but so much depends on what you'll be doing, what type of traveller you are, and how experienced.
Here's a good place to start, I hope other (women) travellers join in the discussion.

Hello Elise, I travelled in Nepal as female traveller alone ant it was very safe. I never felt in danger. But if you like to do trekking / hiking, then it is generally recommended not to hike alone (better with guide, other hikkers) over 6 years ago

Hey Elise, Yes I agreed India is not safe for Indian girls and not for females tourists too. Some things you have bounded to avoid if you really want a safe journey in India. You have to avoid traveling alone, taking help with strangers and sharing your personal details or contacts with any female or male friend. Get the details of means of transportation like auto or cab before hiring. Cabs are much safer if you traveling at night. over 6 years ago

    Hi Elise,

I've travelled India for over a year with very few issues. That said, there are a bunch of things I do to keep out of trouble. You can read my tips here: http://impossiblyindia.tumblr.com/post/61138502614/10-tips-for-female-travellers-in-india (it's too long to post here!).
